Gemstones in the 18th Century: from diamonds to coloured gemstones to jade

The discovery of diamonds in Brazil made huge impact not only in jewellery design but also in the discovery of other local coloured gemstones, notably topaz, chrysoberyl, aquamarine, quartz varieties and garnet. At the same time, elsewhere in Asia and south America, sapphires, rubies and emerald were flowing from the their traditional sources, whereas pyroxene jade from northern Burma found unprecedented acceptance in the Qianlong court during the Qing dynasty.

It’s been six and a half years since Rui’s last presentation in Amsterdam.

Kerstveiling 10 december
